Authentic Early Electric Blues in Performance
Maxwell Street Mumea is the performing side of this project—bringing the sound of Early Electric Blues (1937–1953) back to life through small ensembles, vintage techniques, and dynamic, low-volume performances.
Rather than recreating the music note for note, our goal is to capture the touch, feel, rhythm, and conversation that made these recordings so compelling.
Performed on small amplifiers with an emphasis on dynamics, space, and interaction, each performance reflects the intimate atmosphere of the clubs, storefronts, and street corners where this music first evolved.
Available as intimate Solo, Duo, or Trio performances
for concerts, private events, museums, and festivals
WHY EARLY ELECTRIC BLUES?
Most people think this music was primitive because it came first.
The opposite is true.
Between 1937 and 1953, blues guitar evolved into an incredibly refined language built on rhythm, timing, touch, dynamics, restraint, and feel. My goal isn't to modernize this music.
It's to understand it, preserve it, and help others experience it the way the original musicians intended.
About MARK MUMEA
For more than thirty years, I've studied, performed, and researched the music of Early Electric Blues, with a particular focus on the formative years between 1937 and 1953.
Today, I share that work through free lessons, historical research, live performances with Maxwell Street Mumea, and educational videos dedicated to preserving the sound, feel, and history of this remarkable era.
